Privacy notice
Your investigation is fictional. Your privacy is not.
This policy explains what we collect when you visit the site, join a release list or play a case—and the choices you have.
Effective July 26, 2026
Information we collect
We collect the name and email address you provide to unlock a free case, join a release list, contact support or submit a review. We also record whether you separately agreed to receive marketing messages.
The site records limited first-party activity such as page views, case starts, case completions and button clicks using a random browser session identifier. It does not need your name to record those events. Your notebook and case progress may be stored in your browser so you can continue while the page remains available.
If you choose “Allow measurement,” we also use Meta Pixel to measure visits and successful lead submissions from our advertising. Meta may receive browser, device, page and advertising information and may use cookies or similar technologies under its own privacy terms. We do not send Meta the name or email address you enter.
How we use information
- To provide and improve the interactive cases.
- To respond to support, refund and access requests.
- To measure where players enter or leave the investigation.
- To send release news and offers only when you have opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To prevent abuse, fraud and technical failures.
Payments and service providers
We do not store complete card details. Checkout for paid cases is provided by Polar, which acts as merchant of record and processes the purchase under its own privacy terms. Our hosting, database and security providers process limited information only to operate the service.
Retention and sharing
We keep information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above, legal obligations, dispute resolution and security. We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information to service providers, when required by law, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.
Your choices
Optional Meta advertising measurement is off until you allow it. Use the “Privacy choices” control on the site to allow or refuse it, or to change your choice later. A browser Global Privacy Control signal is treated as a refusal. This choice is separate from agreeing to receive marketing emails.
You may ask to access, correct or delete your information, or withdraw marketing consent, by emailing hello@motiveandmischief.com. We may need to verify that the request belongs to you.
Children, security and changes
The service is not directed to children under 16. We use reasonable safeguards, but no online system can promise absolute security. If this policy materially changes, we will update the effective date and provide additional notice when appropriate.
